- Jul 07, 2012 Thane Quests: How to Become Thane in All the Holds Thane Tasks. Thane of Haafingar (N/A) Jarl Elisif the Fair – Solitude. Jarl Laila Law-Giver – Riften. Deal with the Skooma Trade. Complete five Favors for the citizens of Riften and Steward (Imperial) Hemming Black-Briar or Steward (Stormcloak) Anuriel will allow you to buy.
- Speak to the Jarl to begin the Skooma Trade Quest. Then complete the help x people requirement, and you become Thane, pending purchase of Honeyside. You MUST have the miscellaneous quest of speaking to the Jarl of Riften activated to get the dialogue for becoming thane and buying a house.
She MUST survive her questline in order for you to become a Thane and be able to buy the Rifton house. Once she's done with her questline, go back to the Jarl and she'll begin giving you quests to become Thane.

After i complete the quest Skooma Trade and Disrupt the Skooma operations, i only recieve the weapon and the option to become thane does not appear. I try reload 5 times, someone PLEASE help me :(
Loading editorThat weapon is a symbol of thane. If you pay enough attention, you should hear the jarl says she grants you the title of thane. Normally you'll earn the title after buying Honeyside. You can kick a guard's ass and see if you can tell him you are the thane and order him to release you.
Loading editorif the weapon is the Blade of.... then that means you are Thane. If its not you may need to keep helping the people of Riften and checking back in with the Jarl and his steward until you've helped enough people
Loading editorYou have to help 5 citzens of The Rift before the dialogue oftion to become Thane of The Rift appears. This is hidden in the Thane of The Rift quest unlike the others, so just start help out folks in Riften, Ivarsted, Shor's Stone and the farms. Finish 5+ of those quests (some won't count hence the +) and the dialog should appear net time you chat up the Jarl.
Loading editorI have the same problem. Under Misc quest, there is an entry 'Meet With Rift's Jarl'. I already met her (Its Maven btw, For the EMPIRE!!!) and got the offer, then, something happened and the dialogue was quitted somehow. The entry is still there, still unmarked, as if the quest is still open. Oh, and I already bought Honeyside. Its on console.
Is there any reports of quest system malfunctioning?
Loading editorI've had a problem where the Skooma Trade quest doesn't end--I've cleared the cave and the warehouse, but there is no dialogue box to talk to the Jarl. And yes, I've helped enough people, no there isn't an option to buy a house, etc.
Loading editorSkooma trade finished, bought honeyside and helped 5 people in the rift(riften, shor's stone and Ivarstead(I think)) should work. Talk to the jarl... If not then go to honeyside to look for your house carl or steal something in broad daylight and make sure you're seen then check if you can tell the guard you are a thane...

Loading editorFor me the Skooma Argonian lady is gone, I think she is dead. Maven is Jarl and only talks about how great her title is. I even bought Honeyside and nothing. What do I do? Also - I have no clue when the Argonian Skooma quest lady was killed and have no desire to go back that far.

Loading editorI guess if maven is jarl there are odds that you don't get to become thane. I tried and no go. Next time I'll do as I always have and finish everything with the stormcloaks in Riften before taking the rift. It comes up early in the CW quest line.... number two or three for actions so really you have to hit riften early. I was making windhelm and riften my first two things but I decided I don't care about winhelm and actually not much about riften either.

Loading editorAlduin, I have the exact same problem. In the main questline, I handed The Rift over to the Empire, but I have since taken it back with the Stormcloak questline. I completed the skooma quest and got an enchanted weapon, and I have bought the house, but no chat option comes up with Jarl Laiya Law Giver (Or whatever her name is). I have tried getting in trouble with the guards by conducting assault on a guard but there is no thane option. This is really annoying :/
Loading editorWhat I try to do is become thane in most of the cities before starting or completing the civil war so I get the house. But ever since patch 1.9 it is impossible to become thane of Riften and buy the house.
Before the patch I could ride into Riften and become thane in 30 minutes. I think the patch has bugged the quest in one way or another
Loading editorMy problem is that I can't finish the Skooma Trade quest because it won't let me finish the healing potion one. I give the Argonian person the healing potion and I don't get the new dialogue option. The game also doesn't mark the quest as being done. I've tried everything. Reloading my save, telling her that sucks, waiting and giving to her after that, giving it to her right there, and saying I'll grab it, wait and give it to her. Nothing works. If it helps, latest patch and PC version.
Loading editorThis is the situation at the moment. I can do the skooma quest if the Stormcloak women is in charge, but when I go back to her I get an iron dagger and the quest does not update in the journal.
If I give the rift to the Empire I can buy the house but canot do the skooma quest.
Loading editorI've been looking into this myself. From what I understand, Jarl Laila can grant you the title & the house, but Maven won't (some sources say you have to make Maven Jarl first & then do the initiation quests, but I'm not sure how far you can go with her). The 'Help the people of the Rift' quest itself does not show up after the Supply & Demand quest, but you can still do it. It just tracks the quest behind the scenes.
What I've heard is that if you became Thane & then give the Rift over to the Imperials, you lose the title (naturally) but Maven won't grant it back. I haven't tested this, but if this is true, your best bet is to become Thane while Laila is Jarl & then give Riften to the Imperials. I think the only real downside to this is that you cannot make guards look the other way when you commit a crime, but you still get Honeyside & the housecarl. Maybe someone can help out more.

Loading editorI had the same problem on one game. The Rift seems kind of glitchy to me but never more so than on this quest. On my last play through I helped a bunch of people in the Rift, 7 or 8 just to make sure, and then I started the skooma dealer quest. Everything went smooth from there.
Loading editorToo bad i've never gotten a weapon that was any good. It's mainly steel or iron despite the fact my current weapons are so much better in quality and enchantments. I would have liked it better if it wasn't a blade but some hat or apparel; Hell even a shield would be fine.

I can't tell you how to fix your problems, but here's what I did.
First, I did the civil war questline for the Stormcloaks. Then I did the five 'help citizen' quests and only then talked to Ms. Law-Giver about becoming thane. She then expresses that I need to have permanent residence (as if I'd spend any time there), so I bought Honeyside. I then became thane, but got a random enchanted weapon. Haven't tried if the guards care about my title, but she told me I'm a thane and that's enough for me.
Could be that the game's bugged, too.

I became thane while laila law-giver was in charge. Pretty sure of this since I have a housecarl. Don't remember doing the skooma quest or the one right after though, I don't see it in the completed quests list. anyways, finished civil war, maven is now jarl but i can't bring up any dialogue other than her muttering about how she likes the title. i've tried the setstage commands but when i do it, nothing happens and I'm certain i typed them in correctly. the only real problem i have is that i don't have the guard dialogue option but it's really bugging me. I can't really depend on the housecarl being accurate since they don't change dialogue if you lose the title when the hold changes sides
Loading editorIf you sided with the imps and have not done the thieves line you may have to use the console to fix things. Maven's relationship has to be raised from what ive seen to get her to offer the thane option. I did the 5 help quests, bought honeyside and still she wouldn't say anything. I looked online and then used player.setrelationshiprank <her id> 4 and then suddenly she liked me enough. At least this worked for me.

Loading editorI got a damn 'hunting bow of draining' and yet, it sucks like crap! I have bought Honeyside and helped more than 5 people of The Rift. It does not give me the option to say 'Is there anything else you need, my Jarl,' or 'I've helped your people...'

Loading editorI went to the riften jail to help the jarls son or nephew or whatever. He wants you to find someone.
That and helping 5+ people around Riften plus whatever misc tasks the Jarl and Steward want from you is what finally opened it up for me.
Loading editorIf you buy Honeyside AND upgrade it at all before talking to the Jarl again, there's a bug that often won't let you become thane. Here's a way that's never failed me across several characters:
1) Help out 5 people. I generally do the Shor's Stone sample for the alchemist as one of the five because SS is directly on the way to Cragslane Cavern. That's where the second part of the skooma quest is that you have do anyway.
2) Do the skooma dealer quest line.
3) Buy Honeyside, BUT DO NOT UPGRADE ANYTHING.
4) Talk to the Jarl, and agree to become thane.
5) Upgrade Honeyside to your liking.

If you began helping citizens before she became jarl, you may have to talk to the FORMER jarl to 'clear' the glitch. She can be found with all the other deposed jarls in Windhelm at the palace.
I can only verify that happening on another account, and only on XBox360, but she did have the dialog box option. This may also be true on radiant quests for other deposed jarls, as I have had to collect a lot of bounties from people who hope my bones get gnawed by animals, and who want to slap me. But they're briefly cheerful when granting belated Thaneship or forking over gold from treasuries they no longer steward.

I've completed both the skooma trade missions, went back to the jarl and she gave me the weapon and thats it. Nothing was said about becoming thane, but I also dont have the option the buy Honeyside.
What Do I Do?!?!
Loading editorDid you tried talking to her steward? The Blade is supposed to be a proof of your new status, maybe the line was skipped because of a bug.
Loading editorDid all this even got arrested and still no dialouge. I am playing on XBOX ONE is there a glitch or what am I doing wrong? I even got arrested and it didn't give the option to say u was a thane. After I completed the Skooma Trade quest all I got was a bow. Is this happening bc I am a Member of the Theives Guild?

I've been playing the thieves guild quests and decided to become thane of riften since i spend so much time there. I know you have to complete the 'skooma dealerthe raid' quests given by wujeeta before you can get started on that. the problem is wujeeta hasn't spawned in riften and if i try to console her to me then she already has post quest dialog. I also cant console start this quest, it shows that I've done the console command correctly but nothing happens. i also cant console start the 'becoming thane' quest either. Is there any way i can reset my consoled wujeeta so i can give her the potion and everything or maybe force the quest starting dialog with her using commands or something?
